Frequently Asked Questions

What is DNS propagation and why does it take time?
When you update your domain DNS records (such as changing web hosts, pointing to a new server IP, or setting up Google Workspace/Office 365), recursive resolvers around the world cache the previous entries according to your TTL (Time-To-Live). Propagation is the duration required for all global resolvers to expire their stale caches and fetch your latest DNS records.
How does this tool check global DNS propagation across multiple resolvers?
The checker executes simultaneous, low-latency queries across geographically distributed public resolver networks—including Cloudflare (Global Anycast), Google Public DNS (North America), Quad9 (Europe), OpenDNS Cisco, AliDNS (Asia-Pacific), and AdGuard—letting you see side-by-side in real time which regions have updated and which are still resolving old records.
How does the Expected Value matching feature work?
You can enter your expected target value (e.g. your new server IPv4 address, Vercel/Netlify CNAME alias, or mail server domain). The tool compares answers from all resolvers character-by-character, displays visual green match badges, and calculates an instant global propagation percentage (e.g. "100% Propagated (12/12 Nodes)").
Why do some resolvers update immediately while others take hours?
Different DNS providers and regional ISPs enforce different caching intervals and respect varying minimum TTL thresholds. High-speed global Anycast resolvers (such as Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 and Google 8.8.8.8) typically refresh within minutes, whereas regional ISP resolvers may cache records for 12 to 48 hours.
Can I check propagation for mail and security records like MX, SPF, and DMARC?
Yes. You can check propagation across all essential record types including A (IPv4), AAAA (IPv6), CNAME (aliases), MX (mail servers), TXT (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, domain verifications), NS (nameservers), and SOA records.
